The biggest trend this spring is Fantasy of Florals. As flowers use to start spring and new life so is the fashion starting with flowers this year. Some designers took it so far as a mix of florals from head to toe. Loose dresses, wide blouses with a school-like white collars. One color flowers or a bit crazy mixture of all colors. Knit sweaters with flowers on them, embroidered blouses, floral blazers, printed silk dresses, camp shirts, even pajamas. Flowers everywhere. It seems to be a nice distraction from the monotony.
Another big one is MIDI size. Love for mini, which I personally prefer much more to midi is this year out of side. No more sexy over the knee. But it doesn’t mean that we see less flesh. Big and small HOLES make the difference – this is how skin is showing this year. We find them on bodysuits, jumpsuits, turtlenecks, sweaters, dresses, pants. Holes showing the skin in a much unexpected places and ways.
Feathers are back a la mode. Certainly not the way as in the 30-ties. Feather skirts, sweaters with feather trims, silk loose shorts with feather pom-pom, satin tops trimmed with feathers, dresses with feather hem. Even feathered blazers or feather-trimmed leggings.
Last few years we have observed everything close to the body, which I like so much. Not this year. Hang Loose is back. Wide-leg pants, paired with lingerie camisoles or knit wests. Some of the pants resemble so much the 70-ties, I feel almost sad that I have thrown them out.
Transparent overlays and chiffon reign back too. Long and short sleeves out of Chiffon, full dresses, skirts and tops.
What’s new in make-up? Lots of artistry and innovations. Classical make-up is almost gone. Bold red lips combined with monochromatic outfits and almost no face make-up, radiant blue lids, Smokey-dramatic eyes, glitz of the purple lids, extravagant brows. All to make you look intense and let you stand out from the crowd.
Hottest shoe trend meets this year also comfort. Flat sandals are absolutely on the top. This trend seems to be an answer to the consumers’ demands. Sandals this year are very girly and most of them are Velcro-type. Sandals with crystal buckles are now a la mode as comfortable evening shoe. Fancy Flip-Flops are not anymore your shower shoes. They are now heeled, and as such are great and very elegant footwear.
There is also something completely new for your feet. Baroque Ballet Flats. Beautified with brocade patchwork or burnished gold are comfortable for long indoor wear and also to keep you at ease while on the go.
Remember Platforms from the 80-ties? Et voila. 40 years later and they are back. So, if you crave a bit of elevation, instead heels, this year we use platforms.
Let’s look at the jewelry trends. Pearls are now something you should borrow now from your grandmother and you wear them as well in the morning as evening. Pearls in drop-earrings, layered necklaces are back in style. Metal crush is another top trend. No more flat gold or silver. We have now a new rigid and “crushed” style. Shoulder-grazing earrings (my preferred) with of course differently colored feathers are also on the top. You can wear them for day or black tie.
With handbags we are back to extra large ones. Now you schlep around all your belongings easily. Lots of space for all your gadgets, cosmetics and even small grocery. It is not a new trend of course but timely again.
